Alan Black is a media executive, producer and entrepreneur with more than 20 years of experience across podcasting, documentary film and the cultural sector. He is the founder of Left of Dial Media, an independent podcast company focused on developing distinctive, ambitious audio projects and championing original voices.

Previously, Alan served as Chief Operating Officer of Canadaland and as Managing Director of Hot Docs, where he helped lead one of the world’s most influential documentary organizations and founded the Hot Docs Podcast Festival. Throughout his career, his work has focused on audience development, sustainable media models, strategic partnerships and creating opportunities for independent storytellers.

Today, through Left of Dial Media, Alan continues to explore new approaches to podcast development, discovery and sustainability while advocating for bold, original work in an evolving audio landscape.
